Events
From time to time, Clarion West brings together authors and the public for the opportunity to interview prominent writers in both intimate and public settings. When possible, Clarion West teams up with other organizations to make this happen.
Summer of Science Fiction & Fantasy Reading Series
Clarion West invites each of the Six-Week Summer Workshop instructors for a reading & discussion. Readings may include selections from recently published books, unpublished stories, or novels-in-progress. The featured reader(s) also answers questions about writing, teaching, editing, and other topics. When the Workshop is in Seattle, readings are typically held on Tuesday evenings at 7PM Pacific, unless otherwise stated. When the Workshop is virtual, readings may be scheduled at the best times to accommodate the instructors and potential hybrid locations.

Summer Write-a-thon
Check back in January for more information about the 2026 Write-a-thon!
The Write-A-Thon is a peer-to-peer fundraiser for Clarion West. As a supporter of our mission to teach, build, and provide community for emerging writers of speculative fiction, you sign up to produce a certain word count during the two weeks of the write-a-thon and encourage your networks to back your goal with their donations. Use the write-a-thon as the crowdsourced motivation you need to finish that chapter or work on those overdue edits. You can participate from anywhere in the world. We don’t need you to run a 5k (unless you’re into that?), we just need you to write.
Flash Fiction Groups
Looking to bring a more personalized and dynamic writing and critiquing experience to your summer? Our popular Flash Fiction Groups will be back in 2026!
Participation in a flash fiction group offers the perfect opportunity to “shadow” Clarion West’s six-week workshop. Write and submit a flash fiction story each week, learn a variety of critique methods and exchange critiques with peers, and receive guidance to sharpen your storytelling skills—all in a supportive, small-cohort setting.
What about writing sessions and writing along the Six-Week Workshop?
Our Discord is open year round with writing sessions, opportunities to form writing groups, find critique partners, and build community.
