Excerpt

Many years later Cat still remembered the damp twilight on her skin and the way the dewy grass prickled and snapped beneath her bare feet as she ran up to the edge of the forest that surrounded her childhood home. Her mother had let her stay out late that night so she could catch fireflies in a jar, and she lay amongst the tumbling honeysuckle and ropes of wild grapevines with the jar held aloft, holding still and waiting for the fireflies to buzz through the opening so she could trap them inside.

Bio

In 2008, I received an M.A. in creative writing from The University of Texas at Austin. Two years later, I attended Clarion West, where I was the recipient of the 2010 Susan C. Petrey Scholarship Fund. One year after that, I sold my first two novels to Angry Robot through their Open Door Month.

Currently, I live in Houston, Texas, where I write and teach at a local community college. My first novel, The Assassin's Curse, was nominated for the Young Adult Library Sciences Association (YALSA)'s 2014 Best Fiction for Young Adults list.
