Excerpt
Most departed spirits who sought Jan's help arrived in a burst of ozone. A few, the impatient ones, tended to flash-freeze everything metallic as well, so when Jan's cereal spoon frost-bit her hand one drizzly October morning, she knew what to expect. In fact, she knew who. Her mother, Grace, was not at all the sort who'd accept the afterlife without a final message or two for her daughter.
Bio
I'm a proud graduate of Clarion West 2007 -- and a member of yet another select group: the brave few who were members of AARP when Clarion West extended an invitation.
My work has been published in Romance and Beyond Magazine. Not exactly pro rates, but a real paycheck!
The rest of my writing success has to do with "finalist" and "honorable mention" awards--but that was BEFORE Clarion West. I'm busy rewriting trunk stories based on the wisdom so generously offered by pros and colleagues alike in those six (long) weeks in 2007.
Writing Description
My writing falls into four categories:
* sf (usually space opera) with a social message,
* fantasy with a spiritual message,
* cross-genre sf/f with some sort of message, or
* fun stuff with or without a message.
Goals
Rewrite and submit one trunk story. Rewrite one CW story OR deliver a first draft of the one story that refused to be written at CW.
