Excerpt

The crumbling towers of the Angkor temple were bathed in the orangish glow of late afternoon sunlight while sounds of gunfire and hoots of success filled the humid air. Ranh Kiman trained his M16 on the bas-relief of a pot-bellied god with the head of an elephant.

Writing Description

I'm not very good at this kind of thing, but here's my buddy Jay Lake on my writing:

"Ruth Nestvold writes with a strong literary sensibility, often focusing on themes of gender, identity, and culture. Her fiction has been recognized in international awards, Year's Best appearances, and strong critical acceptance worldwide."

Goals

During the Write-a-thon, in addition to my normal writing goal of 2500 words a week, I will shoot for achieving the following goals:
- Revise the first three chapters of my novel-in-progress, Shadow of Stone
- Revise three stories that have not yet been out on the market and submit them
- Finish one new story

I will post about the Write-a-thon on my blog and match pledges up to a total of $100. In addition, I offer my supporters a choice of Tuckerizations in the three stories I plan to revise and get out on the market by the end of the Write-a-thon.

Here's what I have to offer:

6 minor characters - $20 each
1 secondary character, semi-antagonist, male - $30
1 (remote) love interest, female - $40
1 female narrator - $50
