Rochita Loenen-Ruiz
Excerpt:
Aldaw lives where the eye cannot see. His home is in that place they call the Skyworld. There is where he took the chosen in great arks that seem like legend. Fom where he lives, Aldaw lends them his protection in ways that are a mystery even to the leaders of the tribe. If not for the Goodbye Houses, if not for the summons that came at regular intervals, it would be easy to believe that the Skyworld is nothing more than a legend.(Love Song from the Dwelling Place of the Sun)

Writing Description:
Being a Filipino influences my work. I take inspiration from the indigenous culture of my home country as well as from my experience of being in the diaspora. I write fantasy and science fiction and am currently working on a tribal science fantasy project.
Writing Goals:
I will be in the Philippines during the Write-a-thon, doing research, relearning Hapit (the language of the place I grew up in), studying the hudhud (which is vital to my novel-in-progress), and working on my novel as well as two stories which are inspired by historical fact.Internet connection is not always reliable where I will be, but I will try to maintain weekly updates via my livejournal (rcloenen-ruiz.livejournal.com) on my progress in research as well as in writing.By the end of the Write-a-thon, I hope to complete two short stories and to have made headway where my novel is concerned.
Fundraising Goals:
I would love to raise at least $100 for the Write-a-thon. More than that would be wonderful.
