Mir Plemmons
Excerpt:
Her grandmother’s proud, weathered face – older even than Annie was now – shone in her mind, joined by a chanting voice that rolled Hausa words to meet American realities. Her grandmother always said the rain on a tin roof reminded her of the music of her childhood, two lifetimes and two continents ago. Grandmother’s pride was more than equal to the task of holding onto language and skills through dangerous decades of hiding both, and to bringing it forth when time ripened, to teach the child who listened. Now the words came, words of stability and safety, of community and protection. She built walls for her town with words and rhythms that grew out of ways to keep prowling beasts away at night. Grandmother was a blessing to the whole town, though they’d never known the half of it. She’d say that’s as it should be.
Bio:
I am a teacher in special education, and only special-interest-(and unpaid!)-press published. I’m a poet, and write articles and course handouts for my various interest areas. I have three articles in the SCA’s new edition of the Known World Handbook. Sandra M. Odell is a friend and Clarion West graduate, so when I volunteered to write a poem and a short story came out of my fingertips, I found this very nonplussing and wanted to explore this odd occurrence!I am active in mentoring, SCA, SF Cons, Red Cross, and CERT. I really ought to sleep more. We are Landed Poor and kept our house's prior name -- Greenhaven. The repair and reclamation progresseth.

Writing Description:
I am a storyteller, poet, and article writer, all in a variety of genres, both subject and format. I am now nonplussed to find myself with short stories coming out of my fingertips and characters whispering in my ears!
Writing Goals:
I need to explore this fictional prose thing! I believe I need to learn to frame a story, research more time-effectively, and force myself to increase output and save editing for the next stage.
Fundraising Goals:
I'd like to see 20 people donate in support of my writing.
