Fat was in fashion that season, as were flowing hair, bright colors, and full skirts. The ladies invited to that week’s fall soirée ordered vat-grown gowns with body-length ruffles. They added curves to frames that had been willow-thin a week earlier and grew their hair into long curls that they adorned with satin ribbons and diamond barrettes. The men wore the same tailored tuxedos they’d worn for five hundred years, and their mods were more subtle--a little extra girth for some, a slight broadening of the face for others. The more daring added an arm or hand tattoo that moved and flickered as molecule-sized robots swirled under their skins.

Bio
Melinda is a graduate of Clarion West 2007. This fall, her series of educational manga will be available from Lerner Publishing Group. She's also published in Weird Tales magazine as well as an anthology of circus mysteries titled Freaks, Geeks, and Sideshow Floozies. In her spare time, she's a graduate student at North Carolina State University. She lives in North Carolina with her husband, writer Richard Dansky, and their three hyper-intelligent cats.

Writing Description
My writing is all over the place. I've written high fantasy, horror, ghost stories, cyberpunk, and science fiction. I like to use magic and science to write about people and the connections between them (or lack thereof).
Goals
This summer I'll be revising and sending out one short story per week.
My goal is to raise at least $100 for Clarion West. I'll be putting an announcement on my blog and another on Facebook as an open letter asking for donations. I will also send an email blast to my mailing list.
