Excerpt:
Look, she says. I have all the independence of action I need. My sisters aren't a drag on me. And anyway, this isn't that story. It isn't any of the old stories. They're all the old stories, says the bridgekeeper. The old stories are all the stories that there are. Maybe that's true and maybe it's not, she says. I don't know. What I do know is that if I act as though this is an old story and as if I know how it will end, the story will tell itself around me, and I'll have no say in it.
Bio:
Earlier, I worked in a lumberyard, wrote budgets for a no-longer-extant bank, researched quotations for one of Ronald Reagan's speechwriters, wrote code that ran on mainframe computers, won awards for Latin oratory, served on the Clarion West board of directors. Now I make cocktail hats, lift weights, raise money for writers, and vote Democratic. I remember very little Latin and hardly any JCL.
Publications:
None.
Writing Description:
I write only a few more words than I erase, but I keep writing.
Writing Goals:
I'll write every day. I'll keep some of the words.
Fundraising Goals:
I challenge the rest of the Clarion West community: I'll sponsor all participants for $1 each, up to 99 participants, for a total of $99. If we get 100 participants, I'll make it $5 each, for a total of $500. (I'll mail my sponsorship check to the P.O. Box. No hitting every single PayPal button for me!)
