Excerpt:
The sun rises over Long Island Sound. Greenwich Point reaches into the bay like a bent, knobby finger. A light breeze blows fog ashore, up into the dunes where it mingles with the goldenrod, bayberry, beach grasses, and the bamboo and other exotic invasive plants battling for supremacy. Ten miles from the Point, hundreds of intelligent squid begin swimming toward the shore. Melissa Yancy practices Tai-chi in a shaded corner of the parking lot at Greenwich Point Park. She’s thankful her stomach is empty. If it wasn’t, she’d be throwing up.
Bio:
Jesse Buerk attended Clarion West Writers Workshop in 2004 and has been writing science fiction and fantasy stories since, although he is still seeking his first professional sale. His writing productivity slowed from 2008 to 2010 as he pursued a Master of Environmental Studies degree from the University of Pennsylvania, imagining a solar Philadelphia for his thesis. Since receiving his masters degree, Jesse has worked as a Transportation Planner at the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, where he gets to imagine the future of transportation and land development in the Philadelphia region. This is the first time he's managed to get his act together and participate in the Clarion West Write-a-thon.
Writing Description:
