Jacob's wife arrived the day the moon was full, pulling a suitcase on wheels behind her. She looked younger than she had sounded: sleek and blond with bright red lipstick, which suited her. She wore a belted black leather coat and small, tasteful gold hoops in her ears. She looked just as bored as she'd sounded on the phone, reaching out to ring the bell with casual disregard. Susan opened the door and saw that the woman's green eyes were focused not on the gun in Susan's hand, but on the small back yard. "I see he isn't quite ripe yet," Jacob's wife said.
