Excerpt:
My lamp illuminates you. Ice coats the cave walls. The air is easier to move through now. That means the magic is going. You aren’t quite what I expected. The intricate crown of braids around your head is disheveled. Strands of black hair twist down your shoulders. You struggled. Drops of blood hang frozen, still scarlet in the crystal ice. A scar slinks white across your ivory face. Was it slow to heal in your frozen cell?
Bio:
Artist, writer, and opinionated bon-vivant, I served as the Clarion West Art Director for two years. I am fortunate in having many friends who are Clarionites, so I know what a great program it is. I live in Seattle with my talented husband Mark Bourne (Clarion West '92), mostly malamute Kai, in a house held up by books, yarn, and dust. Order of non-breathing items may vary depending on time of year and inclination.
Publications:
"A History of Cadmium," Fantasy & Science Fiction (May/June 2010)
Writing Description:
Fantasy that twists fairy tale themes and mythologies into a new light. Occasional forays into historical-based fantasy. And truthfully, whatever amuses me at the time.
Writing Goals:
Write diligently an hour and a half a day.
