D. Elizabeth Wasden
Excerpt:
Within a few weeks, the orange tree grew, burying its great roots in the rug beneath it. Eventually, three beautiful orange blooms sprouted, then came the Three Oranges.I plucked them from the tree. Rubbed them across my lips, flicked my tongue over them. Tasted them. Knew them. Never let it be said that I have no control, for I placed them in the pocket of my greatcoat.

Writing Goals:
Don't get me wrong--I don't consider myself an early morning person. During Clarion West, however, I discovered that I was particularly productive post-coffee and prior to the start of class at 9:00. (I'm pretty sure it's a mixture of fresh brain and concrete deadline.) I've been attempting to write in the morning before I have to leave for work, but I haven't always been successful. When I do write in those free minutes after I down a cup of coffee and before choosing my hat for the day, I do very well. Well enough to make it my Clarion West Write-a-thon goal: write everyday prior to leaving work from Tuesday through Saturday.
