Excerpt:
Mrs. Arcenaux leaned close to David’s ear. The bristly white hairs on her upper lip brushed against his skin. Her breath was hot and sour on his cheek. “You stay away from that no-good Mr. Cavendish. Hear? He’s a red eyes.” She fumbled in an apron pocket and pulled out a slightly squashed peach half-wrapped in a paper napkin. She said loudly, as if someone else just beyond them were listening, “Here, boy, take this peach. It’s still good and sweet. You eat it all up, and maybe get something on them bones besides skin.”
Bio:
Christopher Caldwell is a 2007 alumnus of Clarion West. He spent many years working with at-risk youth in a residential treatment center, but now spends most of his time writing, writing, and rewriting.
Writing Description:
I am interested in exploring gender, sexuality, and race through fantastic avenues. Has no one else ever wondered if there are radical queer unicorns?
Writing Goals:
I plan to write 1,000 new words a week, while revising 2,000 old ones.
