In their story, I am the Villain.
The Hero is tall, with skin like refined bronze. Golden hair whips in the jungle wind as he holds up an ancient nano-sword. He points the weapon directly at me.
"We will not bow to monsters from the sky!"
His voice is like the ocean, rolling across my companions. We stand, an island of black Javelin armor, in a sea of iron-clad savages.
The field behind him erupts, crude firearms shooting at the sky and swords smashing against shields in agreement. An ancient cannon booms, black smoke rising.
My visor tells us the shot, arcing over my companions, is composed of flashy but harmless nitrates and strontium. We remain still, unmoving as black monoliths as the fireworks explode over our heads.
Progress is inevitable. The Hero dies today.

Bio
A graduate of Clarion West 2007, Amy Lau has rafted rivers in Russia, explored the temples of Cambodia, and ridden elephant-back into the bamboo forests of northern Thailand. When she's not writing, Amy tries to figure out more ways of getting abroad. She is currently working on an urban fantasy novel set in New York City featuring a homunculus heroine, a Sidhe hip hop artist, privatized detention centers, and a Valkyrie in pink Manolos.
Goals
Amy plans to mimic the Clarion West experience by writing six short stories in six weeks.
