Kathleen Alcala's (CW '87) first story collection, Mrs. Vargas and the Dead Naturalist, is now available as an e-book at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Sony, Kobo, and Copia. A few individual stories are also available. This is an experiment in conjunction with her publisher, Calyx Books.

Caren Gussoff Sumption (CW '08) has a story titled "Glasses Boy" on the
SYBHEL Project Short Story Competition short list. The competition is for stories relating to the legal and ethical issues surrounding synthetic biology in the field of human health. All of the shortlisted stories are available as a free e-book at sybhel.org, where readers can also vote for their favorite story. -

K.C. Ball (CW '10) received a nod from the storySouth Million Writers Awards. Her story "Snapshots I Brought Back From The Blackhole" was named one of the Notable Stories of 2011.

Arinn Dembo (CW '90) is releasing a free short story every weekend leading up to the workshop's beginning this year; once the workshop begins, only her Write-a-thon supporters get a free story every week. This weekend's tale, titled "Words from the Dark Inkwell of the Heart," is a non-genre piece in honor of one of the earliest science fiction writers in European history, Cyrano de Bergerac, and the play by Rostand of the same name, which is much more famous.
